Therapy is the process of meeting with a licensed therapist to resolve problems that have risen from behaviors, thoughts, beliefs, and attitudes. Sometimes these problems manifest in relationship problems, self-destructive habits and behaviors, painful feelings, nightmares, intrusive thoughts, and developing negative coping mechanisms like excess alcohol use. Therapy begins with establishing goals and getting to know your therapist and yourself. Therapy is tailored to you and your specific needs and journey. I utilize a solution-focused approach that is as unique as you are. The number of sessions needed depends upon you and your situation. The solution-focused approach means that we will only meet as often as you need to meet in order to accomplish your goals. It is my job to get you where you need to be as quickly as possible. Therapy ends when you feel as though you have met your therapeutic goals. Once you have met your therapeutic goals, you can graduate from therapy. Some clients enjoy moving on from therapy to embrace all life has to offer on their own; while others enjoy having a few check ins a year with their therapist. On your last day in therapy, we will discuss how you want your life to look going forward.
I am licensed in Texas, so I can only provide therapy if you reside in Texas. If you live outside of Texas and would like to work with me, coaching may be a good fit for you. Scroll down to learn more about coaching.
Generally diagnoses are not helpful nor needed in therapy. We can go through the diagnostic process if this is something that you feel will be helpful for you. Before we start this process, I like to dedicate a session to discussing the benefits and the implications that a diagnosis can bring.
Most clients do not know this, but utilizing insurance REQUIRES a diagnosis for billing. This is why I (and many of my other colleagues) do not take insurance. Most of the clients that I see do not want a diagnosis of any kind on their medical files which I support.
I will not diagnose you unless you request it. I personally believe that the label of a diagnosis is rarely helpful.
Therapy with me is focused on the unique solutions that you believe will best help your unique situation. My solution-focused approach is more client-centered and future-focused. Therapy is more gentle with a pace that is determined by you.
Therapy can address adjustments and transitions, resiliency, self-efficacy, communication, problem solving skills, anxiety, stress, depression, maladaptive behaviors, maladaptive coping mechanisms, grief and loss, behavioral and mood changes, relationship matters, spirituality, identity, recovery, confidence, self-esteem, and personal growth.

Personal and/or life coaching will help you to develop and set better goals, develop and improve personal and professional relationship skills, identify strengths and use them to make better decisions and take more action. Coaching utilizes an approach that is more direct, motivational and advice centered. Coaching is usually more focused on skill development. The number of sessions depends on your situation how quickly you are able to take action on achieving your goals. Coaching is successful and complete once you have achieved your goals. You can then graduate from coaching. Most clients confidently choose to graduate and apply their new skills in their lives on their own. There is an option for regular check in meetings should you feel the need. This can be discussed together prior to graduation.
